Banking and investment services: Proposals introduced to update rules for collective investment in transferable securities

United Kingdom

The Commission has proposed a Directive amending Directive 85/611 on the harmonisation of national rules for collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS). The amendments will take into consideration the completion of the EMU in that they will allow UCITS to invest in bank deposits. They will also permit UCITS to invest their assets in standardised options and futures contracts dealt in on regulated derivatives markets, guarantee that UCITS will avoid excessive concentration in deposits with a single credit institution and generally introduce more flexible risks spreading rules for UCITS investments.
