New wholesale electricity market blueprint confirmed

United Kingdom

OFGEM and the DTI published a report on 21 October 1999 confirming new arrangements for the wholesale trading of electricity. The report follows a period of consultation on the blueprint for new trading arrangements issued by OFGEM in July 1999. It is thought that the New Electricity Trading Arrangement (NETA) will bring more competition to the electricity market and enable electricity to be traded in fully competitive commodity trading conditions. The report, produced by OFGEM and the DTI confirms the blueprint for how the new system will operate and marks the end of the development phase and the beginning of the implementation phase which will culminate in the start of trading from Autumn 2000.
