UK: Lift truck operators

United Kingdom

Approved Code of Practice and Guidance, “Rider-operated Lift Trucks: Operator Training” has been revised in an attempt to reduce the 8,000 lift truck accidents per year. The guidance gives advice to employers on the sort of training they should provide for lift truck operators including: determining what training is required and who needs it; choosing a training provider; choosing the right course; and providing appropriate training for managers and supervisors. The main changes made to the revised publication are the extention of the definition of a lift truck operator to include “anyone who operates a lift truck, even as a secondary occasional part of their job and is not limited to people designated as lift truck operators”.
