Ofgem reports developments in competition in electricity generation

On 14th April 2000, Ofgem published a report on the developments in competition in electricity generation.

Entitled "The Government’s Review of Energy Sources for Power Generation," the report covers six main areas:

(a) reform of the electricity trading arrangements in England and Wales

(b) practical opportunities for divestment by the major coal-fired generators

(c) the introduction of competition in electricity supply for all customers

(d) separating supply and distribution in electricity markets

(e) resolving the technical issues about the growth of gas, including the proper remuneration of flexible plant; and

(f) continuing to press for an open energy market in Europe.
