Final stage for Russia's new Labour Code

Russia

On Tuesday 25 December the draft Labour Code was adopted by the Russian Federation Council. The State Duma had already passed the bill in the second reading on Wednesday 19 December and the third (and last) reading on Friday 21 December. The new Labour Code is to replace the outdated and heavily amended Labour Code in force since its adoption over 30 years ago. The new Labour Code acknowledges the new economy by providing for private sector employers, competition in the labour market and non-unionised workforces.

Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to sign the bill into law later this month.
