CMS guide to hotel industry issues: e-marketing

United Kingdom

The Privacy and Electronics Communications (EC Directive) Regulations 2003 came into force in the UK back on 11th December 2003. The regulations have been criticised as being ineffective to prevent e-mail marketing or spam due to inefficiencies in the enforcement regime, and the fact that most spam comes from outside UK and the regulations do not apply to corporate recipients. Hotels and travel agents, like other UK businesses, should, however, ensure that their marketing activities by email, picture and video messaging comply with these regulations.
