Corporate Manslaughter survey results

United Kingdom

CMS Cameron McKenna recently conducted a survey of clients and contacts on the impact of the government's proposed reform of the law of Corporate Manslaughter.

In summary, the survey results indicated some support for reform of the law in this area with the majority of respondents believing that reform would promote better health and safety performance by companies. However, most respondents did not feel that the proposals contained a workable standard distinguishing serous manslaughter cases, and considerably more felt that there could be a negative impact through risk averse behaviour and bureaucratic systems. There was strong support for the law to apply equally to the public and private sectors.
