The Tracker: status of Public Bills before the UK Parliament - November 2007

United Kingdom

Welcome to this month’s Tracker, showing the new Bills that have been presented since the start of the new Parliamentary session at the beginning of this month. There is also a section on draft Bills under consideration.

You might like to note in particular these new Bills:

  • The Dormant Bank and Building Society Accounts Bill – this is part of the Treasury’s drive to deal with unclaimed assets in the banking system: if the person entitled to the money cannot be found, the money will go to the Lottery Fund, via an FSA-regulated central reclaim fund, for reinvestment in the community.
  • The Housing and Regeneration Bill – this creates a new Agency to regulate social housing
  • The Sale of Student Loans Bill - to enable a sale of the Government's Student Loans Portfolio worth around £18.1 billion and expected to increase to £55 billion over the next ten years.
