Ukraine: closer ties with EU

Ukraine

Measures to implement the Ukraine-EU Action Plan in 2008 have been approved by Ukraine’s Cabinet of Ministers.

Ukraine is a priority partner country within the European Neighbourhood Policy. A joint EU-Ukraine Action Plan was agreed in 2005 to bring about the reforms required to reinforce relations between Ukraine and the European Union.

The measures specify areas where further work is required, including:

  • political dialogue and reform
  • economic and social reform and development
  • trade, market and regulatory reform
  • co-operation in justice and internal affairs
  • transport, energy, information society and environment reform
  • science, education and health care development

The measures include full Government support for relevant legislation and an agreement to keep the Cabinet of Ministers, the European Commission and the public updated on progress.
