Poland: 6 January to be new public holiday

Poland
Available languages: PL

From 2011, 6 January (Epiphany) will be a public holiday in Poland.

In return, employers will not have to give employees a day off in lieu of other public holidays falling on non-working days in accordance with the working time schedules (e.g. on Saturdays).

This change has been signed into law by the President even though there are concerns about its compatibility with the Polish Constitution. Employers’ organisations and trades unions have already announced that they will seek a ruling on its constitutionality from the Constitutional Tribunal.
