State aid to automotive companies operating in Poland’s special economic zones is within approved limits, according to UOKiK’s half-yearly report to the European Commission.

Polish state aid to a automotive company must not exceed 30% of that company’s investment cost incurred up to 31 December 2006, under Poland’s accession treaty obligations.

UOKiK’s report covers four motor manufacturers together receiving state aid of over PLN 920 million, including over PLN 68 million in the last 12 months.

The state aid received, expressed as a percentage of investment costs, is:

  • 15% for Volkswagen Motor Polska
  • 15.2% for Fiat Powertrain Polska
  • 1.5% for General Motors Manufacturing Poland
  • 25% for Isuzu Motors

Poland has 14 special economic zones offering preferential conditions for businesses, including tax exemptions and cancellation of real estate tax.
