Hungarian film support scheme extended until 31 December 2019

Hungary

In 2008, the European Commission declared the Hungarian film support scheme to be compatible with the EC Treaty until 31 December 2013. This September, the European Commission extended this period by an additional six years.

The above extension applies to both the direct and indirect film supports. This means among others that the indirect support will remain 20% of the production costs.

The total yearly amount of the direct and indirect film support is now allowed to almost double to HUF18.5 billion.

The Hungarian Motion Picture Foundation welcomed the above decision. They argued in their request for extension with the increased number of films expected to be produced in Hungary as well as the increasing number of Hungarian films.
