CMS Workshop: UK shale gas moving into top gear

United Kingdom

On Tuesday, 14 October 2014, CMS Cameron McKenna LLP hosted the workshop ‘UK shale gas moving into top gear’. CMS was delighted to welcome over 50 clients and colleagues along.

Despite the media furore and hype about the potential of shale gas in the UK, only one well has been, partially, fractured for shale gas, since the first licence was granted in 2008. Companies investing in shale gas are still in exploratory phases and there has not yet been any commercial production of shale gas in the UK. Last Tuesday’s sessions explored how the shale logjam might be broken, exploring new developments in regulations and consenting, the economics of shale gas investment and also how to manage protestor action.

Speakers at the event included: Andrew Jones (Senior Vice President - EMEA Acquisitions and Divestitures at Macquarie Bank); Alex Grant (Managing Director of oil and gas investment banking at Jefferies); and Bob Palmer, Chris Williams and Danielle Drummond-Brassington from CMS.
