NEC4 for the Public Sector

United KingdomScotland

Whilst it is not a requirement for parties procuring a contract to use one which is a standard form, often they do. There are several standard form construction and engineering contracts to choose from and, within the UK public sector, the New Engineering Contracts (NEC) have become the contracts of choice. As NEC contracts are intended to be “all-purpose” and “flexible”, and with their use being endorsed in central government guidance, NEC is now used to procure a perse range of works and services in the public sector. We have seen many high profile projects procured by national and local government bodies using NEC, such as the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and the construction of High Speed 2.

In June this year, the NEC4 suite of contracts was launched. We have put together a handy guide on the changes made to the NEC4 Engineering Construction Contract which can be found here.
