Brexit-related, non-compliant .eu domain names to be revoked from 1 January 2022

England and Wales

EURid has confirmed that it will revoke all Brexit-related, non-compliant .eu domain names on 1 January 2022, with these domain names being subsequently released in batches. If a registrant wishes to reinstate a domain name currently with “WITHDRAWN” status, they must meet certain .eu eligibility criteria and contact EURid before 31 December 2021.

As previously reported by CMS, all UK registrants who were not EU citizens or residents, or organisations, businesses or undertakings established in the EU, were unable to register or hold .eu domain names as of 1 January 2021, and their .eu domain names suspended as a result of Brexit. On 1 July 2021, EUrid gave all of these Brexit-related domain names “WITHDRAWN” status. Domain names with “WITHDRAWN” status no longer function.

More information on the reinstatement procedure can be found here. EURid can be contacted via [email protected] should you require further information or wish to submit a request regarding a specific Brexit-related domain name.
