DCMS Select Committee hears oral evidence from the BBC, S4C, MG Alba, Radiocentre and UK Community Radio Network

United Kingdom

On 20th June 2023, as part of the next phase of its pre-legislative scrutiny of the draft Media Bill, the DCMS Select Committee (the “Committee”) heard oral evidence from the BBC, S4C, MG Alba, Radiocentre and UK Community Radio Network.

The hearing was split into two meetings during which the invited representatives shared their views of the draft Media Bill. Some key issues of the draft Media Bill were discussed, including:

  • PSB prominence on smart TVs and other connectivity platforms;
  • the potential lack of parity between S4C and MG Alba content, and the role of Gaelic language content in UK media; and
  • the amendments to radio regulation in the UK.
