Competition: Commission makes competition law simpler by adopting regulations on hearings.

United Kingdom

The Commission has adopted two Regulations designed to simplify its competition procedures. The first, Regulation 2842/98 deals with hearings. It distinguishes among three different types of hearing:

  • hearings of parties to which the Commission has addressed objections
  • hearings of applicants and complainants
  • hearings of other third parties

Under the new rules the statements at the hearings will be recorded on tape in place of written minutes.

The second Regulation, 2843/98, deals with the contents and procedures of applications and notifications in the transport sector. Both regulations came into force on 1st February 1999.
