Compensation offer - rejection by member 1

United Kingdom

Reference: F00912

A manager offered to pay GBP 2,000 as compensation for its mistake in the compilation of a benefit statement. The member rejected this offer and went to the Ombudsman. The member had not suffered any financial loss as a result of the error. The Ombudsman determined that although the manager had been guilty of maladministration, the member had unreasonably rejected the original compensation offer and ordered the manager to pay only GBP 250 as compensation for distress.
