Competition and trade law: Commission proposes EU-US anti-trust pact

United Kingdom

The Commission has tabled a draft competition agreement between the EU and the US which should prevent the duplication of competition investigations.

Under the pact, the EU would not enforce its own rules either if the anti-competitive behaviour did not affect consumers in the EU, or where US consumers were considerably more affected. The US would do the same - in reverse. Although it would not cover merger investigations, the agreement is likely to be of benefit to business.
